Day 53 - Tempting Fate

Another one of those days that make you glad that you are in the UK in Springtime: blue skies, warm sunshine and pleasant temperatures.  Nothing else for it, but an impromptu 9 holes with Mrs Lawrence.

This was a great treat, especially as the afternoon saw us carrying out a number of those pre-summer chores that we all love to put off. In our case, this meant fetching a new BBQ gas cylinder, visiting the local tip to clear stuff out of the garage and getting the garden furniture cleaned and the parasol up. If this isn't asking for trouble, I don't know what is!

The evening had a different treat in store: no, not sitting in front of the TV watching the Masters from Augusta, but instead joining the Walton Rotary Club for dinner at Burhill and then listening to what BBC commentator and local resident, John Inverdale had to say.

He was very entertaining, covering a range of topics from the Williams sisters, Andy Murray's wedding, the Rugby World Cup, UK Netball, Margaret Thatcher and Frank Bruno.  His talk was cut short at 10 p.m. as this is clearly the time when Rotary meetings are timed to finish: a great pity, as I could have listened to him for a lot longer!
