I had stayed up late the previous night to watch Jordan Spieth's last hole: he looked as if he had grabbed the first Major of the season by the scruff of the neck. I have money riding on some of the UK contingent (Messrs Casey and Rose), but there is still plenty of time to go. My bets are on them finishing in the top 10, so I remain optimistic!
Today saw me at Burhill playing in a match vs Worplesdon. Inevitably, much of the on-course chat centred on the Masters: it was a common view that it was everyone's favourite of the Majors, one of the reasons being that we all "know" the course. I can empathise with that view: though whenever you speak to someone who has actually been to Augusta they tell you how many more changes of elevation there are than you see on the small screen. We do has a 3D TV set at home and, if we can be bothered to charge up the special glasses, we shall again see something of those hills and slopes.
I am pleased to report that the Burhill team had a successful day, with six of the seven pairs (including ours) recording victories. I need to rely on my partner for much of the round, waking up only in the middle section, but fortunately one of our opponents was even less on his game. The other played very nicely and must have been a bit disappointed.
I was intrigued to discover that he had a major role in British rowing and we have even arranged to meet up in Sarasota in 2017 for the World Championships, for the location is only a short bike ride from our place out there. How's that for forward planning!
